Due to competition from Home Depot, retailer Lowes plans to close 47 retail stores in the US and Canada. 27 of the stores are in Canada and 24 were part of a 2016 acquisition.

Marvin Ellison, Lowes CEO said:

“The store closures are a necessary step in our strategic reassessment as we focus on building a stronger business,”

Just 3 months ago the entire Orchard Supply chain bought by Lowes was shuttered as well, joining other big box retailers such as Toys R Us, Sears and K-Mart who have closed stores or shut down entirely.
