Amoeba Music recently announced its much anticipated plans to relocate to a new space close to the Pantages Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard following years of speculation regarding the future of the popular music store. The relocation comes five years following selling its current structure at 6400 Sunset Boulevard to developer GPI Companies. The current structure will be replaced with a 28-story apartment tower.
Amoeba Music’s website posted the following statement:

We aim to do you proud and continue on as your supreme source for music, movies, and so much more. We look forward to seeing you at our new home on the corner of Hollywood & Argyle this Fall, and have provided more details for you below. Thank you for being a part of this journey with us.”
The new location will be on the ground floor of the mixed-use development at 6200 Hollywood Boulevard called the “El Centro Apartments & Bungalows.” The property has 60,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space with 507 residential units above. The new space will be slightly smaller than Amoeba’s current store however there will still be space for signings and live shows as well as other events. The opening of Amoeba’s new store is expected following Labor Day.
